Recent Examples of Unique Sports Nets and Ball Containment Netting Productions
Backstop Overhead Nets
Baseball field backstop nets are a popular product that Gourock supplies to many types of customers. Backstop netting is a vertical layer of protective netting that prevents errant balls from hitting spectators, and acts as a ball containment net during play. In addition to the vertical layer of netting, many backstop netting designs also require custom nets that cover the upper area above the stands as well. In order to best accommodate the unique shapes and dimensions of the stands and backstop location, custom shaped nets built to trapezoid configurations are often best to use. Here we are showing the production diagrams for a pair of custom baseball field nets that were ordered by a municipal little league organization. There were 2 different fields that needed overhead protective netting, both done in trapezoid-shaped panels that were 5/16″ rope bordered around the perimeter edges. The netting for the project was #36 X 1-3/4″ DuPont® type 66 twisted-knotted nylon – which is a popular and very recommended selection for backstop netting and stadium nets at public organizational field locations.
Softball Field Barrier Nets
In this next recent example we are showing a series of 7 custom netting panels that were ordered by a high school athletic department for use at their softball fields. They had a variety of larger areas around the softball stadium that utilize barrier nets to contain balls within the field, and to protect spectators in the stands from foul balls. As you can see from the production diagrams, there are 2 netting panels constructed to trapezoid shapes, 2 nets constructed to unique tapered designs, and 3 netting panels built as standard rectangle dimensions. Each of these custom softball barrier nets is specifically built for a particular location at the stadium, ensuring perfect fit and function. This was actually a repeat production of the same nets that were originally ordered and installed in 2014 – and the material they prefer to use is the #21 X 1-3/4″ twisted-knotted nylon netting, with 5/16″ polyester rope bordered edges.
Baseball Containment Netting
In this custom baseball field net example we are showing a very unique netting panel that was needed by an organizational sports customer at their stadium. They had encountered a need for protective netting to cover a long and narrow area of the stadium that was being subjected to property damage due to foul balls and other errant baseballs. The overall length of coverage was over 76′ in distance, however it was pretty narrow in with – just over 9′ in this case. But the most unique features of the netting design were a pair of custom tapered edges on both far ends of the net – with all corners of the panel specifically located in order to fit the space effectively. For any ball barrier netting project to be highly effective, dependable, and durable over time – custom netting that is built to match is the best option to consider. On this project the #36 X 1-3/4″ type 66 twisted-knotted nylon netting, diamond mesh pattern, with 5/16″ rope bordered perimeter edge.
Custom Batting Cage Net
Baseball and softball fields will typically incorporate protective netting around the backstop and spectator areas. But another very popular type of netting found at baseball fields and softball stadiums are batting cage nets. Batting cage nets are fully enclosed tunnels of containment netting that are used for batting practice, hitting training, and pitching practice needs. Because these types of netting enclosures include containment mesh on both ends, both sides, and the upper ceiling area – they are perfect solutions for effective practice and training. Balls are effectively contained within the batting cage tunnel, resulting in efficient practice and also protecting the outer environment from baseballs and softballs. In this particular project our baseball stadium customer needed a custom batting cage net built to sizing of 12′ high X 12′ wide X 78′ long – and also needed to incorporate 3 entrance doors as well. The batting cage netting in this case was #36 X 1-3/4″ twisted-knotted nylon, and the baseball hitting tunnel was seamed on all edges with rope bordering. Entrance doors are 3′ overlapping mesh pass-through flaps, which are highly effective as they allow for players to enter/exit the enclosure easily, while also preventing balls from escaping.
