Nylon Netting for Outdoor Home Projects: Garden Protection, Bird Exclusion, Cat Containment

Nylon netting is a really great product solution for a wide range of multipurpose projects and needs, especially for outdoor installations and uses. Over the years here at Gourock.com we have supplied netting and specialty nets that have been dependably utilized for a huge variety of outdoor projects, ranging from large industrial applications to private residential locations. Nets are often needed for containment or exclusion requirements – or for general safety and protective needs. For instance, nylon netting is a great product to protect property from being impacted by errant objects (such as golf barrier netting, hail protection nets, or sport and athletic containment netting), for bird exclusion netting applications, or to block/contain objects within a particular area (such as sport court nets, deck and railing netting, and animal containment netting applications).

The 1″ mesh size is very functional for the majority of objects that need to be blocked by the netting, since it is not too large or too small of a grid spacing. Here are a couple of recent examples from the last few weeks that help demonstrate some really great uses for the 1″ square mesh nylon netting, installed at residential locations and applied for some typical exclusion and containment situations that many people may encounter at their homes. Both of these residential outdoor projects opted for the #18 X 1″ DuPont® Twisted-Knotted Nylon Netting that we have readily available directly through our convenient Online Custom Netting Calculator. Our customers on these 2 following projects both used the same material and netting selection, but needed very different sizing requirements for their particular spaces and areas.

In the 2 photos below you can see a great recent example of a garden netting installation. Our customer in this instance constructed a framing structure from wood posts and beams, and then used the 1″ mesh nylon netting to surround the vertical perimeter of the garden – along with the upper ceiling area as well. In this case the intended end result was a bird exclusion netting installation that would protect the garden from birds. In addition, the garden netting is also very functional to exclude deer or other animals from getting into the garden. The 1″ square mesh nylon is a perfect choice for multipurpose garden netting projects, as it is a very strong yet lightweight material to work with – resulting in a user-friendly mesh selection that has a very professional appearance and high durability to the elements. The square mesh installs very nicely around wood frames such as this, and is a popular and recommended approach for many backyard netting projects, garden netting installations, and backyard bird barrier net structures.

In this second example shown below, you can see that our customer also constructed a wood framing structure in order to install their nylon netting. In this case the project was on an upper patio of a private home, and their intention was to enclose this particular area to contain their cat – calling the project the outdoor “catio”. Cat containment nets are something that we at Gourock have supplied a lot of netting for over the years, and the 1″ square mesh knotted nylon is again an excellent selection for cat barrier nets, animal containment netting projects, and similar netting needs on patios and backyard porch locations. As you can see from the second image, our customer accomplished their “catio” project using 3 different sections of custom-sized nylon netting, with 2 of the sections being rectangular in shape and then the larger net being a more uniquely-shaped T-shaped net that was custom prepared for their project needs. As with the garden netting example above, installing 1″ square mesh nylon netting to wood framing structures is a great approach – it looks great, is user-friendly, and functions very dependably for cat containment applications.
